Planning a kitchen

If you’re thinking about planning a new kitchen, it can be a daunting prospect, but here at Dream Doors we are here to help you every step of the way.

The kitchen is often the hub of the home, and you need it to be a space that works for you and your family. This is why it’s important to spend plenty of time planning what you want your kitchen to look like and how you want it to work for you.

Kitchen Planning

Start by simply making a list of what you like and don’t like about your current kitchen, it may be that you don’t like the colour of your kitchen cupboards or that you would like more kitchen storage.

Out with the old in with the new

Take the time to have a good clear out of your kitchen, you may have utensils, cutlery and tableware that you have had for years and just do not use. If you know how much kitchen storage space you actually need, this will help you plan your dream kitchen.

Take time to think about what you want, do you need more preparation space, built-in kitchen appliances or a space you can eat as well as cook in.

Kitchen Design Ideas – Be Inspired

Kitchen Design Ideas – Be Inspired

Now is the time to immerse yourself in kitchen design inspiration! Make Pinterest boards, tear pages out of interior magazines, look at what you like about a friend’s kitchen or maybe watch TV makeover shows. Wherever you gather your inspiration for your dream kitchen, note it down and you’ll start seeing a pattern forming.

There are many different style kitchens to choose from, you may like modern kitchens, classic style kitchens, contemporary kitchens or traditional kitchens, whatever your kitchen style we will have a range that suits your kitchen ideas.

Choose style and substance for kitchen flooring

As well as considering the overall look of your kitchen by considering the style of the kitchen doors and worktops, you may also want to think about the kitchen flooring, as this is one of the most prominent features.

Think about the colour, do you want a dark or light kitchen floor, this may be swayed by whether you have children or pets! You may also want to consider durability, is your kitchen somewhere that is used throughout the day, or do you only really use it for meal times?

You’ll probably want a kitchen floor that is both practical and stylish and sits well with the rest of your kitchen design.

It’s important to consider different options, such as wood or stone, before making your final decision, and remember you can speak to one of our kitchen experts to provide design advice.

Kitchen Lighting Ideas – look at the options

Don’t just think about ceiling lights in your kitchen, there are so many other options to consider to go alongside your main lights! Spotlights over food preparation areas or lights over the hob can really help when prepping and cooking food. Plinth lighting at the base of your kitchen units can help create depth to your kitchen, you could also look at drawer lights, that automatically switch on when you open a kitchen drawer.

We have a whole host of kitchen lighting options to explore
