Energy efficiency in 2024

If you are looking to redesign your kitchen in the new year, now is a great time to make some energy efficient swaps, so you can make your home modern and stylish, whilst also saving yourself some pennies in the long run!

The kitchen is one of the areas in your home that uses the most energy, with a recent report from Greenmatch saying 17% of our energy bills and from the kitchen.

In this article, you will find our favourite low energy appliances, and some simple swaps, so you can start the new year right.

Make the swap to a microwave oven:

Microwave ovens are not only a handy appliance to quickly heat your food, but they also work by heating the food inside, rather than the space around your food, because of this, they can use as little as a third of the energy that a standard oven uses!

Invest in an induction hob:

Induction hobs work by transferring electromagnetic energy straight from the hob to the pan, making them the most energy efficient hob option. All the heat generated goes directly to the pan, with none heating up the air before reaching your food, this not only means less heat being wasted but also quicker cooking times and about half as much energy used compared to a conventional hob!

Upgrade to a boiling water tap:

The average household boils their kettle around 4 times a day, with this number likely to increase alongside the growing number of people working from home.

These taps are not only time effective, eliminating the time spent filling up the kettle and waiting for it to boil before settling down with your brew, but they also allow you to only use the water needed for your drink, meaning less wasted energy heating up water that will be cold by the time you’re ready for your next cuppa!

While instant hot water taps do rely on electricity to heat up the water before dispensing and to keep it at the correct temperature, the heavily insulated tank installed with your tap is designed to keep the water at this temperature and prevent any heat from escaping.

Check your dishwasher settings:

Did you know that most dishwashers have an eco setting? Have you been using this?

Using the eco-cycle setting on your dishwasher, alongside only running when full will be sure to decrease the energy used running this appliance.
