Ex-IT director, Mike Hurley, and his wife, Elaine, a former Open University course manager, have been breaking records since they started their Dream Doors franchise just two years ago. At £615,000, their first year’s turnover was more than three times what is forecast for new Dream Doors franchisees. Now, with £187,000 of kitchens and kitchen facelifts sold in a month – and £69,000 in a single day – the Hurleys have shattered all previous sales records held within the 12-year old brand.
“We don’t feel we are doing anything different than we’ve done before,” says Mike. “We have a great concept, fantastic products and we deliver on our promises. We’re certainly putting in the hours, but the rewards are there. And we’ve smashed last year’s figures already, selling more in a month than some do in a year. In fact, we sold more in a day than we’ve done in most of our previous months!”
“That’s a staggering figure for any franchised business at any time, let alone amongst the doom and gloom of the current economic climate,” says managing director, Troy Tappenden, founder of the kitchen door replacement specialists.
He adds: “With empty shops on the high street and household names going out of business, potential franchisees are more nervous these days, wondering whether their money, and their futures, are safe.”
“Mike and Elaine have shown what can be achieved in this business, and they’re not alone. We have a number of franchisees that turnover £80,000, £90,000 and £100,000 months, and net six-figure incomes. As a brand we were up almost 20 percent in 2009 and 2010, and we’re up even more this year. Dream Doors won’t just ride out the recession. We’re growing, and we’re taking more and more market share every day.”
A Dream Doors kitchen facelift typically involves replacing the existing doors and drawer fronts with made-to-measure products, all of which are manufactured in the UK, as well as new worktops, a sink and taps. The average installation time is two days, and the cost is less than half that of a like-for-like new kitchen.
