Making the Most of the Space in a Smaller Kitchen
9th October 2015
Let’s face it – as much as we’d all love to have one of those massive dream kitchens, not all of us have one. But don’t fret! There are so many ways you can make the most of the space in your kitchen, making it a well organised and clutter free space. We’ve compiled some of the best tips we’ve found across the web to ensure that you’re able to make the most of your own kitchen.
Using your Oven
The first tip we have is quite simple – store all your cooling racks, baking sheets and oven trays in the oven. This ensures that you have much more space in your cupboards (just make sure you take them out before you start cooking!) It’s also a great idea to store pots and pans on top of your kitchen cabinets (so long as you can safely reach them), just to make sure you’re using every inch of space.
Clean as you Go
Another simple tip (but one we might all be a little guilty of not doing) is making sure that you clean everything as you go. This stops dirty dishes piling up and ensures that your kitchen always looks at its best. It’s hard to believe how a few dirty dishes can make your kitchen feel much more cluttered and claustrophobic.
Hooks, Hooks, Hooks
One tip that we’ve found very helpful is installing as many hooks in your kitchen as you can. They’re a simple yet effective way to hang oven mitts, towels, aprons and many other items. This is great for freeing up space in your drawers and also makes the items that are hanging much more handy to grab when you need them. It’s also a good idea to organise items in your kitchen in relation to where you’ll use them. Oven mitts near the oven, plates near the sink or dishwasher, spices and herbs within reach of where you prepare your meals. Doing this makes your kitchen look much more organised and spacious.
Get More Storage Space
The final tip that we have for you is that you sometimes need to buy new storage for your kitchen. Although simple and free space-saving tips can be great, sometimes it’s best to buy new products that help with storage. The likes of fold-out cupboards, cupboards with a lot of shelves, kitchen utensils that fit snugly together – basically anything that helps make your kitchen less cluttered.
